Quick answer
Choose HydroFLOW Pearl for a smaller Canadian home, cottage or RV up to about 1,500 sq ft, provided your main pipe fits Pearl's supported size. Choose Pearl PLUS for a typical single-family Canadian home in the roughly 1,500–3,000 sq ft range — the default starting point for most mainstream households. Choose HS40 for a home over roughly 3,000 sq ft or higher water demand — not simply because you have hard water.
HydroFLOW is not a salt softener. HydroFLOW's own product information describes its residential units as preventing scale buildup, not chemically removing dissolved hardness minerals the way an ion-exchange softener does. If you need actual hardness-mineral removal, a traditional softener performs a different function.
If you already understand what HydroFLOW does and just need to pick a model, Pearl, Pearl PLUS and HS40 are sized for different homes, not different performance tiers. For general background, see our full HydroFLOW Canada review.

Check your pipe size before ordering
House square footage alone isn't enough — HydroFLOW Canada's own pages state different maximum pipe sizes in different places (product description text vs. specification table vs. shop page) for all three models. Measure the outside diameter (OD) of your main cold-water line and confirm with HydroFLOW Canada directly if you're close to a stated limit.
Don't automatically buy the HS40
HS40 is HydroFLOW's largest and most expensive residential model, but that doesn't make it automatically the right or safer choice. The correct model depends on property size, plumbing, water usage and HydroFLOW's own application guidance.
Warranty and guarantee, precisely
All three models carry the same 3-year manufacturer's limited warranty. HydroFLOW Canada's guarantee terms also describe a 12-month "Fit to Purpose" guarantee: per HydroFLOW's own terms, a claim must be made more than six months but not later than twelve months after installation, and the buyer must demonstrate the unit failed to prevent buildup of encrusting scale. This is a conditional performance guarantee, not a simple "return for any reason" money-back guarantee, even though some HydroFLOW page headers shorten it to that phrase.
